“CIA briefed lawmakers on waterboard tactic in ’02”
►In the previous September 2002, four members of congress met in secret for a first look at a unique CIA program designed to wring vital information from reticent terrorism suspects in U.S. custody. For more that an hour the bipartisan group, which included future House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was given a virtual tour of the CIA’s overseas detention site and the harsh techniques interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk. One of the techniques was waterboarding, a practice that years later would be condemned as torture by Democrats and some Republicans on Capitol Hill. But on that day, no objectives were raised. Instead, at least two lawmakers in the room asked the CIA to push harder or use other strategy.
►I agree with the waterboard structure because the terrorist make this to our people.
►I also agree because I perceive that it’s the only way that this terrorist will talk.
►In the other hand I don’t agree because they are also humans and it has to be another alternative.
►I think the most interesting that impact me fact its that the CIA are torturing this terrorist.

Articles;; Oil spill at 2.8 million gallons.
Summary;; This morning’s blog is based on the article I read in the newspaper. It was about an oil spill that took place in South Korea. The spill was described as thick and smelly crude oil as it washed up on an 11-mile stretch of scenic coastline yesterday. The spill is already causing panic among South Korea’s coast guard because it’s threatening fish farms and blackening sea gulls. But the cause of this spill is a Hong Kong-registered supertanker that was slammed early Friday by a Samsung Corporation barge in rough seas and nearly 66,000 barrels of oil went into the ocean. But it seems that everyone is trying to help. Residents and emergency workers used buckets to try to remove it from the ocean. In all, 2,200 troops, police, and residents were engaged in cleanup efforts at the beaches in Hong Kong. The coast guard dispatched 62 ships and five helicopters to assist. It said the area of shoreline affected by the disaster had more than doubled by last night.
Reflection;; I am disappointed that this had to happen but on the other hand, I am glad that people are really interested in resolving the issue. It’s just a shame that 2.8 million gallons of oil had to go into our ocean.
Fired UCSD employee arrested in bomb hoax.
An employee who use to work at UCSD in the lab as a technician was actually arrested on Saturday with charge that he had connections with a bomb hoax because they had found out that on Wednesday he had gave the location for a La Jolla Campus, where he actually use to work at. Kalka the name of the young man was charged with a federal arrest warrant with providing fake information or for that matter getting involved with hoax information. Today he is expected to have court in which right now he is in Metropolitan Correctional Center in Downtown, FBI agent Fox had said that they had received calls about a bomb threat in UCSD and well the media was there on Thursday trying to see what was the case with it all. The recording seemed very suspicious to a lot of people they said that the voice they heard was very familiar but where not able to point it out, with that the day before it all they had first received a letter about the bombs and many other explosive devices.
I believe that putting something like that on the line as for letters and recordings about how there is a bomb, that’s just so childish I mean there in UCSD and they are there for a purpose not to joke around as if they where in elementary or high school. People of course get scared and end up calling the FBI to investigate it all, I just think that some people should take consequences in there own actions if they believe they are not going to be delt with or people aren't going to find out, think again there is always a way to find things out when the FBI comes in it all.
I chose to read this article mainly because my cousin goes to UCSD and I wanted to know if anything bad had happened.
Oil Spills
Oil spills 2.8 million gallons in South Korea. A honk Kong super tanker was slammed by a Samsung Corporation. Nearly 2.8 million gallons and 66,000 barrels of crude was in the ocean. Residents and workers tried to remove the oil with buckets. The coast guard dispatched 62 ships and five helicopters to help bring in the ocean. The disaster doubled when the oil spread from the shore to four miles in the ocean. Some say with out the ocean there sea food will go down cause that is were most of the U.S. seafood comes from. The coast guard states that it is unclear how long it will take to clean up the mess but they will do the best they can. I think that the food that will be coming from that area will be bad for the next couple of menthes because of the oil effects the animals in that environment. If we take a chance on eating that seafood then we could get sick are selves and have a epidemic on are hands. I also think that Korea should move some of the animals in that area so they wont get sick and die. The national emergency manager says she will not make this a emergency yet until certain things have showed up in people behavior or people going swimming in that area, or people get sick.
The population of the gray whales is decreasing. There was once 118,000 gray whales who lived in the Pacific Ocean. Due to Human activities that have hunted these whales & climate changes that are said to have been provoked in some way. These changes have decreased the population of it’s mammals species & lack of need food has also became another issue. The shifting of climate conditions on the Arctic feeding grounds has been found to be the cause of lack of food to the whales. At present day there are only 22,000 gray whales left in total of those who live in the Pacific & in the western part as well. A Stanford doctoral student by the name of Elizabeth Alter, lead author has stated that the DNA analysis has allowed them to take a view how the ocean look once before any human impact was ever made. Tribes who hunt these whales such as the Aboriginals are allowed to hunt 125 whales a year. But because this law has brought much controversy, the International Whaling Commission have to set an argument over what they should really allow to be hunted. There has been to have a chance where it has been said that if the rules on hunting whales changes, then the number of whales could them increase. But also due to the increased temperatures in the ocean it can also kill many of the whales food, decreasing it’s population once again. I believe that they should change the rule of the tribes who hunt so many whales a year. Maybe there really is nothing we could do about what is going on. And this could be leading to an extinction, that later will effect us all.
Today in the union tribune I read that mourners at an Escondido church yesterday as they remembered Chris Bain and Vicky Fox, who died in their home during the October wildfires. Children and other young people dotted the sanctuary, all of them there to honor Fox, their sixth grade teacher at Rincon middle school in Escondido and Bain, a business man and a boy scout troop leader. The couple were trapped in their home on highland valley road, north of Poway, the fire sprang from the floor from the san Pasqual valley early on oct. 22 and swept up the ridge where their home stood over taking them before they could escape. Sandra fox, Vicky's sister, praised her siblings singing voice, then sang who knows where the time goes? With the accompaniment as many of the 450 mourners wept.
I think that its to bad that they couldn’t be here right know with all their loved ones for thanks giving or even Christmas. Its all that little kids fault and he should go to prison for the rest of his life for all the valuable items that can never be replaced, the property that was dammaged and all the lives he ended.
Sentencing laws lead to crowded California prisons.
California has added 1,000 felony sentencing laws and more than 100 other changes that can lengthen prison terms. The three strikes law has been one cause of more jails being packed. The number of inmates in California has risen from 25,000 in 1980 to more than 170,000 this year. Tax payers will have to pay 7.8 billion to build prisons and jails as part of a law the Legislature approved in April. Also, laws of adding more beds to prison have promised more inmates. A man named Donald Jones, 42 is serving 76 years to life for having a stolen lawn mower and an illegal knife while on parole. One of the jurors said that if they’ve known it was a third strike, they wouldn’t have voted to convict him for such a small violation.
I think that the third strike law may be a little harsher than it should be. I understand that they are trying to prevent people from violating their parole but it is only putting more people in prison for the smallest reasons. The third strike law should be more like, if you violate, you serve more time each strike and the third strike should be life. But when you violate and get a strike, it should be more of a serious case.
- The San Diego Union Tribune
- Mexico peyote site suffers onslaught of tourists, mining
- The article that I read today was about a cactus. The cactus is called peyote it is found in the high desert of Mexico's San Luis Potosi state. In San Luis Potosi its consumption is legal. The peyote cactus has hallucinogenic powers. They inspired gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson and an entire generation of hippies. This ground hugging native is in danger of disappearing. The state government of San Luis Potosi is now defending the peyote because it is so critical for the state. The peyote is a sacred plant for the Huichol Indians. They have used it for hundreds or even thousands of years, in ceremonies to communicate.
- I think that this is a very interesting article. If only it wasn’t such a sacred plant. There wouldn’t have to be laws to protect it.
- One interesting thing that I learned is that it takes 30 years to mature.
=Robbery in Bank=
On Saturday afternoon a man in La Jolla robbed a bank. The bank was an Old World Savings Bank. The man walked into the bank and demanded money. The employers of the bank did not see any weapon but gave the money up in fear of the doubt. The man a was tall Caucasian, skinny and was wearing a red and black ski mask. The man was seen leaving the bank on foot. He also took an undisclosed amount of cash. He was not cough and is still free as I write this Morning Blog.
I think that the owners of these banks should spend some money on making their banks more secure.
This mans getaway was way too easy maybe the employers did not try their hardest to report the robbery on time.
They are also not telling us how much money was taken which sounds suspicious to me.

♫The article I read about this morning was about the snow on Mount Laguna. The snow on Mount Laguna hit 6 inches. Some roads were closed because of the incidents of some rash crashes on the wet and icy roads on the mountain. There is another extreme weather analyzed to hit San Diego County today. It is expected for the snow to be up to 8 inches high. The snow began to fall yesterday during the wee hours in mountain areas above 3,500 feet. Part of the mountain areas where snow fell was on Palomar Mountain, Julian, Mount Laguna, and Alpine. They say that snow was packed on most cars driving down Palomar Mountain.
♫Reflection =]
♫ My assess for this article is that wow I think this is so cool. That I know of it is really rare for it to snow in the county of San Diego. I hope there are no problems with the snow storms that are going on in the mountains.
♫Fact =]
♫ An interesting fact that I read in this article was that firefighters had to rescue a man and his daughter that went down a 300 foot embankment off the interstate 8 near Pine Valley because of the wintry storm
Today I read a story about the three strikes law that there were overcrowding prisons for little crimes. Jones is serving 76 years to life for having a stolen lawn mower and a illegal knife, that was his third strike. At 14 he was charged with assault to a police officer.
Peyote is a type of spineless cactus that grows near the ground. What is special about this cactus is the fact that it is considered one of the most potent hallucinogens in the world. It grows mostly in desert areas of Mexico and southern United States. The cactus is used by a native tribe in Mexico as part of their religious worship and the hallucinations are their means of communicating with their gods. Yet, lately, many that have found out about the effects of the powerful drug can’t wait to have their share of the hallucinogen. People from all over the world have heard of this fascinating drug that will take you on a trip of about 3 days. Many that want to experience the effect of the drug are traveling from all over the world to the little town of Real Del Catorce in the desert of San Luis Potosi in Mexico. There it is legal to consume the peyote as long as you don’t take it home, taking it home is considered trafficking and if caught could equate to 10 years or more in prison. What really caught my attention from the article that I was reading is the fact that peyote takes up to 30 years to truly mature and if people are taking it when its not it will not let the plant regenerate itself. This is leading into the plant’s depletion. As years go by the Indian tribe that resides in that town have less and less peyote to perform their rituals. To them it is a sacred plant yet to many others it is just a another drug.
Oil Spilled at 2.8 mill. gallons
In Mallipo Beach, South Korea crude oil could be smelled for an 11 mile stretch after the oil spill that began this past Friday. This spill is threatening fish farms in the area and residents in the area are struggling to contain this spill. A Hong Kong super tanker was slammed this past Friday be a Samsung Corp. barge in South Koreas rough seas puncturing 3 holes in to the ship causing it to spill nearly 2.8 million gallons of crude oil in to ocean, this was twice as worse as the last spill in South Korea in 1995. Residents and emergency workers helped by using buckets to try and remove the oil that was being carried on to the coast by the strong winds and currents to the country’s western coast. The smell of crude oil could be smelled from a half-mile away. The coast guard helped with 62 ships and 5 helicopters. Business owners like Cho Yoo-soon who runs a raw fish restaurant at Mallipo Beach said that the situation was overwhelming and that restaurants in the area were closing because they were not able to pump fresh water into the fish tanks. “Without fresh sea water the fish will start going bad after a week.” The affected areas are home to 181 maritime farms that produce abalone, brown seaweed, littleneck clams and se cucumber said another resident. Authorities and the people in the area are trying their best to deal with this tragic event. It will take time to clean up the are because the work on the coast has to be done by hand and they are trying to prevent it from spreading farther. The government has agreed to help residents in the area financially and has declared it a disaster zone. The size of the spill is only a quarter of what the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill, that spill had released 11 million gallons of crude oil into Alaska’s sea.
To be in the situation the people in South Korea are in is difficult because a lot of the people there rely on the area for food and money and without it they cant live their regular lives. Its hard to say what I would do if I were in this situation because I haven’t experienced it but I’m sure it would affect me in a lot of ways.
