Oil is scary
Oil spills 2.8 million gallons in South Korea. A honk Kong super tanker was slammed by a Samsung Corporation. Nearly 2.8 million gallons and 66,000 barrels of crude was in the ocean. Residents and workers tried to remove the oil with buckets. The coast guard dispatched 62 ships and five helicopters to help bring in the ocean. The disaster doubled when the oil spread from the shore to four miles in the ocean. Some say with out the ocean there sea food will go down cause that is were most of the U.S. seafood comes from. The coast guard states that it is unclear how long it will take to clean up the mess but they will do the best they can. I think that the food that will be coming from that area will be bad for the next couple of menthes because of the oil effects the animals in that environment. If we take a chance on eating that seafood then we could get sick are selves and have a epidemic on are hands. I also think that Korea should move some of the animals in that area so they wont get sick and die. The national emergency manager says she will not make this a emergency yet until certain things have showed up in people behavior or people going swimming in that area, or people get sick
Today I read two articles, Huckabee, Giuliani neck and neck in national GOP race, and, Huckabee now No. 2 for state’s GOP voters both in the Union Tribune and both articles covering who could go against the democrats next year. In the first article it made it quite clear that because of how unfavorable the Bush administration has been that it is unlikely that we will have a Republican leader this time around. Especially in California where the leading republican candidate Rudy Giuliani is trailing leading democratic candidate Hilary Rodham Clinton 55 to 34 percent. With that in mind the Republican candidate Mike Huckabee has been on fire in both articles it showed the Governor catching up to Giuliani up to a single point in California and 25 to 17 in the GOP race. It seems that Huckabee could win this just because of his background favor with born-again Christians which make up more about a third of registered republicans.
In the article I learned a interesting fact that religion still plays a big part of Government. Even though it would appear that with all the steps to separate church and state that it is still a big issue. I find this to be a positive thing because religion often set ideals and those ideals lead a notion.
The most interesting fact is how fast Huckeabee is catching up to Giuliani just b ecause of California.
Source;; San Diego Union Tribune
Article;; California & The West
Summary;; This morning I chose to read an article about a missing dad and three children being found safe in the mountains. They were up in the mountains in Northern California looking for a Christmas tree when they caught up in a snowstorm and went missing. Once they were safe in the hospital, the dad said that the only thing he could do was pray. A couple of things they did to try to get help was taking pieces of wood and writing the word, "Help." But the thing that made them noticable was when the dad was standing on top of a small bridge, waving his arms in the air. Luckily they found water to drink but they did not eat the snow because their dad also remembered that it caused hypothermia. The family was checked ou tfor diseases and illnesses and were later sent home that day.
Reflection;; I feel bad for the family but I'm glad they are okay and safe. It's good to learn that they did try whatever they could to survive. Some people just get scared and do not know how to react and luckily they didn't.
“Abuse of Marine Recruits Officially Banned, But ‘YOU KNOW THE DRILL’”
►Almost every week, drill instructors greet dozens of young men arriving at the Marine Corp Recruit Depot in San Diego by screaming orders in their faces. Over the next 13 weeks, the recruits will endurance a training ritual that’s part exercise, part drill, part motivation and part hazing. The process will break some and drive most to tears. Marine boot camp, widely regarded as the most grueling among military branches, is designed to mold undisciplined recruits into the world’s finest warriors. But experience and scandals have shown that the corps’ thought-love approach to training can turn troublesome when the toughness runs roughshod over the love.
►I don’t agree because they are too hard on them.
►I also don’t agree because they shouldn’t be that hard and give them a break.
►In the other hand I don’t think its good but war its not pretty at all.
►I think the most interesting fact its that they are banning abuse of marine, and also that there was abuse on the marines too!
Activist sets his site on graffiti vandals.
A South San Diegan is frustrated with all the graffiti in his neighborhood. His name is Rodel Reyes. He spent 100 Dollars on creating a webpage for Anti-Graffiti. He posts images of gangs and names spray painted on trash cans, freeway signs, fences and many other places. His website is for the public to look at and to help stop graffiti by letting people post information about the tagging. Law enforcement, including courts are looking at this website as an easier way to find the taggers and arrest them. He believes this website will save millions of dollars and send many taggers to jail or juvenile hall.
I think this is a good and bad idea. First, this idea is bad because his if his picture is on his website, let alone his name, he will be found and probably hurt if people hurt him for getting some people arrested. Especially in Barrio Logan. It is also a good idea because he is helping save millions of dollars and keeping the city look cleaner and better.
Today in the union tribune I read that the controversy with the abused marines is still happening. The same story but this time the judge reduced sgt. Jerrod glass because he was in the marines. they reduced his two year sentence to 6 months. But he still not part of the marines for what he’s done. People in the internet think that oh it’s the marines its going to happen anyways. But I think these people are ignorant and STUPID. These people don’t know what he did to the soldiers. This kind of sucks because the soldiers probably quit the marines.
Today i read a story, it was about a guy who killed a nun he had said that they hired him for $25,000 to kill her over a dispute over a patch of jungle. The nun's sister was mad because he was set a pre-trial. The guy had confessed to shooting her six times.
