Today on cnn student news I learned about new species and old tactics both of which I feel are very beneficial. The new species is a rat and though this species has little meaning the fact that we are still searching for new species means a lot in the expansion of our knowledge. The old tactics is taxes by taxing things we can stop thing that we do not want or need like fructose in our drinks.

Today we were watching a section of CNN that was very interesting. Turns out that the city of San Francisco in California is trying to put tax in the bigger stores that sell sodas. The ban is not only intended towards sodas but just mostly fructose containing products. This new tax is a way in which the city is hoping to put a type of ban on sugary foods that only make America fat. According to Dr. Sanjay Gupta fructose is a sugar that is found in honey and some natural fruit juice, yet it is very high in calories but does not have any nutritional value. The tax is expected to collect about 1.7 to 7 million dollars. This money is expected to fund programs that will promote the health and activity in the lives of teenagers. Overall I believe that the idea is very commendable yet I don’t think that the tax should be given to the big stores that sell the products, like Costco or Sam’s Club, I think that the tax should be given to the big companies that actually make the sodas and sugary foods.
