“Treatment targets transplant rejection”
►What I read today in the newspaper was that they found a new way to trick the body from rejecting the foreign organs and accept them as their own. Since the first transplant more that 50 years ago, scientist were trying to look for a way to do this. But now they found that they could transplant and make the patients be drug-free for the rest of their lives; this mean without taking the drugs for anti-rejection.
►I agree with this because they are going to help lots of people with this.
►I also agree because the patients will not take the anti-rejection drug.
►I also agree because the scientists aren't doing nothing wrong.
►I think the most interesting fact its that they found this way for people not to take anti-rejection drugs no more.

BEIJING – With the sport set to disappear from the Olympics after 2008, baseball is trying to make sure it doesn't leave China.
Major League Baseball games are coming to China for the first time, with the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres to play exhibition games on March 15 and 16 at the baseball venue for the 2008 Olympics.

Baseball – like soccer, American football and basketball – is eager to crack the market in China, which has a population of 1.3 billion with a swelling consumer class keen to spend on foreign brands.

Unlike soccer and basketball, baseball and American football are invisible on playgrounds in China and absent from TV coverage.

“Hopefully we can help you develop a love for the game as we love it in the United States,” San Diego Padres vice president Dave Winfield said at Thursday's announcement in central Beijing, which was also attended by new Dodgers manager Joe Torre.

Advertisement The two exhibitions and the Olympics in Beijing give baseball a chance to show its appeal, with the sport dropped from the 2012 London Olympics but looking to return in 2016.
“There is personal disappointment that baseball won't be part of the Olympics in 2012,” Winfield added. “We'll do everything we can to keep baseball on the agenda and on your minds and keep making it part of the world, our gift to the rest of the world.”

Torre and Winfield promised that many of their top players would make the trip to Beijing. Both teams have concurrent spring training games in the U.S.

“We're making an effort to make it pretty equal – leaving back and bringing here,” Torre said. “Pitching is going to be the toughest consideration. You're going to be playing two games here and your are going to be playing six or seven games in Florida. But you are going to see front-line players.”

Added Winfield: “We're not going to give you a bum roster.”

Torre and Winfield acknowledged that baseball needs to repair its image, sullied by allegations of widespread drug use in the game.

“Our success in Major League Baseball is based on the trust of the people,” Torre said. “And it is our job to regain that trust. And whatever it takes for us to do that, we have to be willing to do it.”

Added Winfield: “It would be in the players' best interest not to be involved in them (drugs) any more.” He said baseball was “on the right track now. You will see that. Guaranteed.”

Gene Orza, chief operating officer of the MLB Players Association, said his members seemed enthusiastic about making the long trip to China.

“I haven't heard any players on the Dodgers or Padres – unlike any other international event I've been involved in – say they didn't want to come and play in China,” Orza said. “The players back in the States realize this is truly a start – a first step – in globalizing the sport.”

“It's only obviously a first step. It's a long way to go. But every long journey requires a first step.”

- The San Diego Union Tribune
- Baja tourist bid enters crisis mode
- The DOCUMENT that I read today was about a campaign launched to IMPACT the tourists. The campaign will focus on MAXIMUM security in the tourist REGIONS of Baja California. With cross border visits showing marked declines, business and tourism officials in Baja California are going to INVEST in full-scale damage control in hopes of regaining ground lost over the past year. The program that will be launched is called “Get your passport.” this program offers discounts at hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops to those holding a U.S. passport. There is even promotional posters and other materials being printed.
- I think that this is an interesting article. Although it was not ACADEMIC in any way. I wonder what other things they have planned for this campaign.
- One interesting thing that I found out is that there are over 80,000 people who are U.S. citizens who live in Baja California.

The story I read today was about a 31 year old cold case that was solved yesterday. Police had solved the case yesterday with DNA testing that was not there back then. The evidence was kept well preserved and that’s how they knew who the suspect was. The original suspect was the one who killed her, when police had found the body 31 years ago they found twenty eight stab wounds all over her body. The suspect was waiting execution for his girlfriend death.

Today in the union tribune, I read that with cross boarder visits showing marked declines, business and tourism officials in Baja California are going into a full scale damage control in hopes of regaining ground lost over the past year. The image of the MAXIMUM security problem has hit the state very badly, said Baja California’s tourism.

Article; Baja Tourist Bid Enters Crisis Mode"

Summary; This article is about the decline in tourists coming to Mexico, specifically in Baja California. When the number of people crossing the border to visit declines, the businesses and tourism offials also decline. They are actually going into full-scale damage control in hopes of regaining ground lost over the past year. The reason behind the decline in tourists is the security problem in Baja. But there is hope with a new program aimed at luring visitors back. The name of the program is, "Get Your Passport!" The program offers discounts at hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops to those holding a U.S. passport. Actually, on one of the promotional posters it says, "Come Back!," at the very bottom. Another problems lies in a major falloff of visitors driving to Baja California from the United States. There were 1.5 million fewer visitos in 2007 than last year.

Reflection; Im not sure how this plan is going work but we'll see. I think that they should not be worrying about discounts, if anything, they should lower the price.

Interesting fact; Mexico has 80,000 people who are U.S. citizens who live in Baja California.

Suicidal Tendencies

I was reading a very interesting article in the newspaper. The article was about the psychological effects certain experimental and prescription drugs have on the patients. Some ACADEMICALLY FOCUSED studies have been conducted in order to CONCLUDE if these drugs create a psychological trauma, for example suicidal tendencies. Many of the scientists involved in the research have DOCUMENTED that their ASSESSMENT of the drugs have proven fruitful because they have evidence that links certain drugs to suicidal tendencies as a side effect. Now the FDA is making a series of MAXIMUM scrutiny to make sure that no drug sold in the US causes suicidal thoughts. They have discovered that some antidepressants and some weight reduction pills have been proven to have a link to suicide thought in their patients. I believe that it is very good for the people to know which drugs cause some secondary effects, that way people won’t blame the companies for not telling them all the effects the drug can cause.

=Marshals gets Jacked=
In this mornings news paper I have read about a shop lifting incident in El Cajon. At about 2p.m. yesterday a maximum of two dozen police officers surrounded the store of Marshals. Two men had walked into the store with two duffle bags, they were in suspicion for stealing or trying to steel clothing. Documents showed that two of the officers were in SWAT gear. This was because they thought it was an armed robbery. This had happened in the corner of Fletcher Parkway and Jackman Street near Westfield. About ten people were at the store at the time before being evacuated. No customer nor employer was hurt during the incident. One of the suspects was sent to the hospital after repeatedly throwing up in the police vehicle.

=Both of these men are showing to be un academicals in many different ways.

=I think that the man that was sent to the hospital was on some kind of drugs.

=The men really had to be desperate to do this kind of theft and they are now paying double the price.

=The two men are now arrested for the incident.

Article: Building blast kills at least 17 in Mosul.

Summary: In Baghdad yesterday a thunderous blast tore through a vacant apartment building. Due to the blast at least 17 civilians and injured more than 130 other people in adjacent houses. The explosion happened just minutes after the Iraqi army arrived to investigate tips about a weapons cache. The search through the wreckage lasted hours and the count could reach a new MAXIMUM in casualty rate. The explosion reinforced the U.S. claims that this week that Mosul is one of the last urban centers with a strong presence of al-Qaeda. U.S. and Iraqi forces have been on the offensive against insurgents in and around Baghdad. Mosul continues to be the center of gravity for al-Qaeda.

Refection: I believe that the Iraqi soldiers should show a DOCUMENT stating how many soldiers were actually injured and there. The Iraqi soldiers show use their ACADEMIC skills that have learned through there life and patrol Mosul to make sure that al-Qaeda's aren't there. Al-Qaeda's were trying to kill the Iraqi soldiers and need to be a lot more careful.

Interesting Facts: The explosion ravaged dozens of old homes and collapsed a three-story building.

Lately there have been a maximum limit of nooses hung around places found in the state of Louisiana, in the city of Jena. Many people have been documented during this issue , but police have stated that these nooses are intended to the black Americans that live in the state. There was a fight at a local academic high school where 6 blacks beat up on a white high school kid. The 6 teens are now being charged on sentence as an adult. As these nooses are being hung for a representation as black racism, many have complaint. Many police are wondering if this could be just another stupid prank that has occurred in other cases or if racial tensions are beginning to build up again. I believe that whites are very disappointed toward the black in the state, but really they can do nothing about it because whites aren’t the only ones with rights in this country. So both and all people have to respect the fact that you will have to live on earth with people you might dislike but you have to get used to it.

This photo was taken in south Africa. One thing you might find if you entered one of these homes is dirt. How can someone live like this, do they really love their home. Some parts of Mexico have conditions like these. Send money or volunteer to help clean the city and build new homes.
