“Despite Drenching, a Plea to Save Water”
►What I read on the news paper was that the weekend wave winter storms that plowed through California drew a sigh of relief from drought-weary water officials, but it didn’t completely wash away their anxiety. Early reports are promising, with as much as 10 feet of fresh powder blanketing the upper peaks of the shorthorn sierra -- a major water source for the San Diego region. The powerful storms, which flirted with record territory, delivered the equivalent of 3.5 millions acre feet of water – enough to meet the needs of 7 million average households for a year, according to state figures. But one punch cannot fully replenish the state’s reservoirs, which have been drained to dangerously low levels by years of drier-than-normal winters and increase demands.
►I agree because they are living with that.
►I also agree because they need it for what they are doing.
►In the other hand I don’t agree because they could die.
►I think the most interesting fact its that they are wrong.

Western states assailed by storms.

The article i read was about the snowstorms, driving rains, and gale force winds that have been causing deaths across the states from Colorado to New Mexico and Southern California. One incident was when a charter bus bringing people from their ski trip to Arizona slid off-road killing 9 passangers and injuring 20, some seriously. The bus' roof was ripped off from rolling 40 feet. The article also talks about the heavy snow in the border of New Mexico and Snow mobilers who disappeared in the mountains but found alive at a remote train station. Over 3 feet of snow was present at that moment. In California, about 100,000 homes and businesses in Northern and Central California continued to be without power after the storms downed nearly 500 miles of power lines over the weekend. In Nevada water continues to flood 300 more homes and spread sheets of ice over yards and streets. Water is as deep as 8 feet.

I think this is crazy how many storms are hitting across the country. And it's not just one type of storm either, 3 different types of storms have hit different areas. It's pretty crazy how Nevada is being flooded since it's such a dry state. I've lived there before and it's dry, but when it rains, it rains for about a week straight.

Today I read a story about a guy who had been accused of kidnapping a woman in New Years Day. He later had led police to the body of the hiker in Georgia mountains after a judge denied bail for him. Before that happened people were saying that he was the last person seen in the trails with her. Police are also investigating another murder victim that body was found in North Carolina, they are trying to find out if the murders are related to the Georgia case.

♫The article I read about this morning was about a man who is being charged for a murder that happened 20 years ago. The mans name is Marc Jernigan. He is being charged for the murder of June George. June was murdered on August 8, 1986 in her home in La Mesa. She was only 47 years old at the time of her death. The lady was stabbed 75 times in her own kitchen. Marc knew June because he was dating her daughter at the time. Officials say that they believe Marc killed her because she was never okay with her daughter and Marc’s relationship.

♫ My Reflection =]
♫ My reflection on this article is that this sounds pretty crazy. The worst thing that sucks is that the detective that did all the test on everything is now dead. I hope they find the killer of this poor innocent woman who got killed in her own home.

♫ Interesting Fact =]
♫ An interesting fact that I read about in this article was that the DNA test that was done in 2007 also showed that blood stains found on a red leather purse and an eyeglass case belonging to June could have came from Marc even though the tests weren’t conclusive.

Source; cnn.com

Article; Hiker Lived For days

Summary; This morning's blog is about the article I read inside cnn.com. It was about a young woman who went missing after being kidnapped. Her body was recently found in the mountains. ZIt appears that she had been alive for about 3 days before the kidnapper killed her. After finding the body, they ran an autopsy and it showed that she died from a blunt force trauma to the head. It also found that she was decapitated after her death. Investigators believe that she was killed on January 4th. The suspect's name is Gary Micheal Hilton, a 61 year old. After investigating the crime, it was discovered that the suspect had made a phone call the day she is believed to have been killed. After tracing the phone call it led to a local convenience store and next to the phonebooth was the women's wallet thrown in the trash. He led investigators to her body in exchange for prosecuters' agreeing to drop consideration of the death penalty. He is set to appear in court this Wednesday i n Dawson County. He was arrested when his clothes with blood came back matching the blood of the girl's.

Reflection; Again, I think that it's sad that people commit these awful crimes. Plus, I doubt he feel bad for what he's done and what he's caused to her family. I hope that he does get the death penalty.

Interesting Fact; It may be that this guy is also responsible for a couple of murders that also took place in the same place. Investgations are taking place as we speak...

- The San Diego Union Tribune
- Electronics show goes into overdrive
- The article that i9 read today was mostly about technology. It was about different gadgets for cars at the Microsoft auto convention. The convention took place in Las Vegas, A driverless blue Chevrolet Tahoe, its roof topped by antennas and unidentifiable technology, jumps to life and takes a spin around a parking lot. Its steering wheel turning back and forth to navigate a course marked by orange cones and its brakes slowing the vehicle for a stop sign. For the robotic vehicle dubbed “Boss” by its Carnegie Mellon university developers the drive is a piece of cake. This car won the DARPA 2007 urban challenge competition in November. The boss was put through its paces yesterday across the street from the Las Vegas convention center, where this years consumer electronics show touts the convergence of auto and consumer technology. At the four day trade show, which opened Monday several auto component manufacturers are showing systems that warn drivers who veer out of their lanes, slow down cars that approach another vehicle too quickly and help drivers ease into tight parking spaces.
- I think that this is a very interesting article. It is amazing how much technology has improved and how much it has helped us. I wonder what will come next?
- One interesting that I learned is that the Boss drove 60 miles autonomously amid traffic.

Today in the union tribune I read that McDonalds is taking on Starbucks customers with the biggest addition to its menu in 30 years. Barely starting this year, the companies nearly 14,000 locations will install coffee bars baristas serving cappuccinos, lattes, mochas and the frappe, similar to Starbucks Frappucino. The confrontation between Starbucks corp. and McDonalds corp. once seemed improbable. Hailing from very different corners seemed of the restaurant world, the chains have gradually encroached on each others turf. McDonalds upgraded its drip coffee and its interiors, while Starbucks added a drive thru window and hot breakfast sandwiches. Yesterday, Starbucks fired chief executive Jim Donald, handling reins back to chairman Howard Shultz as part of a major reconstructing initiative aimed at pulling the company out of its downward slide. The move, coupled with plans to close some U.S. stores and slow down opening new ones, come as the world largest chain of coffee houses has seen its stock plummet 50% over the last year. Starbucks said the leader ship shuffle is part of a series of other initiatives that include closing underperforming stores, introducing new products and store designs, and improving training for baristas.

=Anxiety and heart attacks=
Today in the news paper I read about a health problem caused by anxiety. Researchers reported yesterday that chronic anxiety can increase heart attacks mostly on men. This is caused by the heart rate increase when going through anxiety. The men tracked in the study were all perfectly well. After years in the study a small but impressive percentage had heart attacks. Of the 735 participants about 75 of them experienced heart problems. This is a small amount but still supported their theory. This 75 men were the most that experienced anxiety. The study was made for the doctors to make a medicine to help anxiety.
This was well worth it because I myself have had some anxiety in the past.
The study also helped me to learn more about anxiety and heart attacks.
If a medicine is made for anxiety I will try to use it myself just in case.
When a man has chronic anxiety it is about 30 to 40 percent more likely to have a heart attack.

On Monday January, 7 the Supreme Court had various hearings discussing the nation’s concerns. One specific concern was if whether the lethal injection is painful or not. The case came up when a lawyer started to argue on behalf of two Kentucky men that were placed on death row. The men were sentenced to the lethal injection but their lawyer raised the question as whether or not the lethal injection was unconstitutional. He said that the three drug concoction had a certain drug that paralyzes the prisoner not letting them show pain, so they could not determine if the injections were really painful. Yet, the lawyer raises a good point, he stated that in the state of Kentucky it is unlawful to euthanize animals in the same way that the prisoners are executed. That just shows us that the lethal injection if it cannot be used on animals, why is it allowed to humans? It is true that most of these men have committed some serious crimes, but, who are these men who believe that they have the role of god in taking people’s lives? The death row is unconstitutional no matter what and I believe that all this needs to be settled soon.

Department of Homeland Security’s office of Inspector General, are investigating a case on a incident occurring upon an off duty border inspector and two Border Patrol agents. The off duty inspector was stated to have been beaten by the two agents, shortly after dropping off his girlfriend at the Tecate border crossing. There were some law enforcement officials who witnessed the scene but did not want to reveal their names due to not wanting to barge in the “ongoing investigation”. But information was noted down form the witnesses. They had stated that the inspector was worried about an armed man who was watching him while he dropped off his girlfriend. Then as she was dismissed that he pulled away quickly from the border, with the armed man still following close after him inside his car. Then, five miles east of Tecate, the inspector stopped as a Border Patrol vehicle pulled in front of his car, trapping him the agent got off and hit the man causing him to fall to the ground. Then the other vehicle with the armed man, who was also a Border Patrol, parked up behind him got off the vehicle and kick the investigator who was injured ion the floor. The investigation was said to be of domestic concern the state, and will be investigated upon by the Federal investigators and Homeland Security. I think that there is some mysterious behind this issue. I also believe that what ever it is, they Border Patrols should be pushed for beating on the man. I bet there are many other cases similar to this one but since the other victims have nothing to do with the work of officials it has been an issue that has been widely ignored.

Union Tribune: Clinton’s Teary moment just part of turnaround.
Today I have read an article on Hilary Clinton and how she is starting to show more emotion. They used to think that she was a cold hearted person but on an interview she showed some emotion. They asked her how she was holding up and her eyes started getting watery and she wanted to cry. They showed a poll that it helped Hilary Clinton get a lot of votes. Before she was a 29 percent in New York and now her numbers grew. To a lot of people this was an opportunity for Hilary to show her true self and this made people think that she might be up to the job. I think that it is great that she was able to get more votes. I want her to win the election. She might seem like a strong women and she is but there is also a soft side to her and that is what Americans want to see.
